     Any parent with young children knows chaos to be the norm. This chaos was on display two years ago as Rachael Smith attempted to board an airplane with her two children, holding a dripping wet diaper bag while rummaging through its soaked contents dumped out on the floor in search of her crying infant son’s favorite toy train.

     At that moment of aggravation this young mother determined to provide parents a way to keep it all together.
As a parent, Rachael knew that life with young children quickly develops into a daily wrestling match with the small details. Her goal was to design a bag that helped parents focus less on the stressful details of the day and more on what matters most: the precious and tender moments shared with children in their earliest years.

     A first grade teacher from Highland Park, Rachel began designing her first diaper bag minutes after that fateful incident as the plane taxied down the runway leaving O’Hare International Airport. She later finished the design in her backyard with a cardboard diaper box, a pair a scissors and a roll of duct tape. Mrs. Smith’s Bags were born.

     Discarding the typical diaper bag model that forces parents to dig through a cluttered heap of bottles, diapers and pacifiers to find what they’re looking for, Rachael created a line of bags that store each item needed throughout the day in organized, easily-accessible compartments. Gone are the days of dumping out the diaper bag’s contents to find a single item.

     The most well-known feature of Mrs. Smith’s diaper bags is the patented, pull-out drawer at the bottom of every bag. Another innovative feature is the insulated bottle holder, several of which are built into every diaper bag along with numerous pockets and pouches. In addition, each bag contains an expansion flap, with a full-sized washable changing pad, and a convertible shoulder strap, allowing the diaper bag to be easily transformed into a backpack.  Bags in the 2010 line also include a specific pocket designed to hold an epi-pen so that it is easily accessible if needed.

     These innovative features are all combined into a single, functional diaper bag, giving parents the comfort of home no matter where they go.
